A HELENSBURGH resident has seen his “faithful” limited edition car go from showroom to showroom over seventeen years.

In 1999 when the present day Tesco Store and filling station site in East Clyde Street was occupied by Helensburgh Honda Motor Company, Henry Garson and his wife spotted what was set to be their car for the next seventeen years.

Henry said: “We observed in passing a very attractive new car in a prominent position in their Showroom.

“It stood out with remarkable glow as it was a very bright but pleasing yellow in colour noted as Sunrise Yellow as it turned out later! The interior finish in Yellow and Black leather was superb.”

The couple, already Honda owners and customers of Helensburgh Honda, were soon in the showroom chatting to the manager and hearing all about the car which had caught their eye.

The car was a limited edition Honda Civic Jordan 1.6VTi. Only 500 were manufactured and each car was plated with the number of the car. The yellow colour signified the racing colour of the Honda Jordan Formula One racing team run by Eddie Jordan. His signature was on the car alongside the number 254.

On September 9, 1999, the couple purchased the car and over the years it became a trusted part of their lives.

Henry explained that the car was admired everywhere they went and that on a number of occasions they were asked if they would sell it and were followed home by honourable Jordan enthusiasts.

The car became a collector’s item after the original 500 were whittled down due to wear and tear and accidents. There were few originals still around but Henry’s was completely as it was when it came out of the showroom.

The Helensburgh Honda shop ceased trading and many of the workers were moved to Phoenix Honda in Linwood.

The couple got in contact with the company after reluctantly deciding it was time for it to go and exactly 17 years after they took it from the Helensburgh showroom on September 9, 2016, they handed it over to Phoenix Honda.

The company recognised the car was a collectable and one of the original 500 and decided to keep it and place it in their showroom where everyone, including Henry and his wife could view it with admiration.
