Babcock has confirmed it will continue its sponsorship of a series of 10K races for 2023.

This year, the Babcock 10K Series attracted more than 2,000 entries, with chairman Kevin Johnson expecting an even bigger entry next year as the after-effects of Covid-19 recede.

The 2023 races will be held in Helensburgh on May 4 at 7.30pm, Glasgow Green on May 14 at 10am, and Dumbarton on May 25 at 7.30pm.

Kenny Douglas, managing director of Babcock at HMNB Clyde, said: “The Babcock 10K Series encourages our employees, their families, our business partners and the wider community to adopt active and healthy lifestyles, which we are really keen to encourage.

“We are looking forward to continuing our sponsorship of the event in 2023 and hope to encourage even more runners to get involved.”

All finishers of the races will receive a unique commemorative medal, as well as a goody bag containing a different item of merchandise at each event.

The series combines elite competition with club runners chasing a personal best and recreational runners.

Previous races have seen Olympic athletes such as Derek Hawkins, Sonia Samuels, and Weynay Ghebresilasie at the front end.

The series’ current records were set in 2019, with Weynay crossing the line in 29 minutes and 32 seconds in Helensburgh, and Fionnuala Ross clocking a time of 34 minutes and eight seconds at Glasgow Green.

Next year’s events will see bonuses for course and series records, as well as more than £6,000 in Start Fitness running equipment vouchers for leading individuals and teams.
