A Helensburgh Scottish country dance teacher’s routine has edged out hundreds of submissions to be included in an upcoming book.

Anne Thorn’s ‘The Portincaple Oak’ is one of just 11 dances to be featured in a book compiled by the Scottish Country Dance Society.

A total of 237 routines were submitted from 100 branches throughout the world, with Anne’s representing the Helensburgh branch.

A branch representative said: “The society had invited all our branches around the world to submit dances which have been popular in the local area for inclusion in the new book.

“We were delighted that a local dance ‘The Portincaple Oak’ devised by Mrs Anne Thorn, a local dance teacher, has been chosen for inclusion in the new book.

“The dance was devised for the late Ian Hall, with music composed by his son David Hall.”

A special video of the routine featuring the branch’s dancers and using a local camera team will be recorded in the coming weeks.

The video will be uploaded to both the society’s website and the branch’s website by the end of July.
