Helensburgh and Lomond residents are being urged to tell Argyll and Bute Council if their local playpark needs upgraded.

The council has made £368,500 available for the 11 playparks in the area but needs the public to let it know via an online consultation – open until Friday, July 14 - which parks require more attention and funding, and why.

Bendarroch park in Garelochhead has been considered a high priority park for repairs by the council due to its non-function facilities which are blockaded by metal fencing as they await repair.

People and groups who get in touch are asked to consider whether the equipment is accessible, damaged and in need of repair, or needs improved safety features.

Councillor Andrew Kain, policy lead for road and infrastructure, said: “Play is an important part of children’s health and wellbeing and we recognise the need to manage outdoor spaces to enable young people to socialise and have fun.

“We welcome funding from the Scottish Government and share their commitment that children should have access to quality play in their own community.

“We would love to hear from you on what we can do to improve your local council managed play park.

“It would be great to be able to deliver everything communities would like but the limited funding we have means we have to prioritise where to allocate resources.

“Please get in touch via our online form and help shape access to play for many generations to come.”

In Helensburgh and Lomond the following parks are being considered for funding: Hermitage; Kirkmichael; Red Guantlet; Arrochar; Bendarroch; Howie; Kidston; Kilcreggan/Cove, Rhu; Tarbet; Cardross park.

A total of £938,000 has been provided by the Scottish Government to Argyll and Bute Council to upgrade the area’s 28 playparks.

The five-year funding package comes as part of the government’s Renewal of Play Parks to all Scottish Local Authorities programme which was announced in 2022.
