ADVENTUROUS Helensburgh and Lomond residents are being encouraged to sign up for the ultimate endurance test at a gruelling physical challenge next month.

Taking place across Friday, September 1 and Saturday September 2, the ‘3 Lochs Ultra’ endurance test will see participants walk from Luss, along the Gare Loch and to Loch Long where they will have the ‘Gold’ option to then traverse the Arrochar Alps.

The challenge is suitable for people of all fitness levels with the bronze level involving a 23 mile walk, silver requiring 35 miles, and gold calling on participants to travel 50 miles on foot - including a 7,000-foot climb.

Nobody has to go alone, as walkers can register as a team and take on the test with friends and family.

A representative from organiser Ptarmigan Events said: “An ultra endurance challenge set in the heart of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park on one of Scotland’s Great Trails.

“Whether you’re a fit seasoned walker, new to trekking, or have set new goals to get in shape – this is the perfect challenge for you, catering from entry level to the elite!

“Starting from the small village of Luss on the shores of Loch Lomond, with breathtaking scenery all the way, trek past Gare Loch, Loch Long, with a final traverse over the famous Arrochar Alps (gold only).

“Choose your entry level from 23 miles (bronze), 35 miles (silver), or go the whole 50 miles with over 7000ft of ascent to Gold!

“Enter as an individual or assemble a team of your, friends, family or work colleagues and you’re all set for an unforgettable bucket list experience.”

The route is fully marked and contains checkpoints and route marshals, and first aid as well as hot snacks and drinks are available along the path.

Medals will be given out as a prize to those who complete their challenge.

A bag drop and transport support are included in the entry fee costs.
