Selfless volunteers have been thanked for helping to make the latest beach clean in Cardross “another great success” - despite the poor weather.

Around 20 locals donated their time to the village's autumn beach clean on the morning of Saturday, October 21, when they managed to collect 30 bags of waste.

Organised by Cardross Community Council, the effort was the final beach clean of the year before winter fully kicks in.

A spokesperson for the community council said: “The clean was another great success despite a marked drop in the number of volunteers, no doubt due to the grim weather at breakfast time.

“However, the rain went off, the wind dropped and those hardy, cheerful souls who turned out were rewarded with brighter skies while picking up the rubbish on the beach and foreshore.

“Twenty or so volunteers collected 30 bags of rubbish, along with tyres, traffic cones, a domestic radiator, two chairs and assorted odds and ends - including a plastic duck and a score of single-use coffee cups discarded at the car park.”

Two volunteers who joined from Dumbarton were praised for their dedication, and an Argyll and Bute Council official was thanked for donating kit to the participants and organising for the waste to be lifted and taken away afterwards.

The spokesperson added: "Our thanks go to all the volunteers for their time and effort.

“The enthusiasm of Alistair and Bob, who joined us from Dumbarton, is worth a special mention.

“As always, we thank Craig Callaghan of Argyll and Bute Council for providing the kit we needed and arranging uplift of the collected rubbish.”

The next beach clean will be held in April 2024, with the community council now winding down their outdoor efforts for the winter.

In the meantime, the community council says will be grateful to residents who pick up any rubbish they see during their winter walks along the beach.
