A Helensburgh school has received "high praise" in an independent guide to the UK's best educational establishments.

Lomond School was praised in The Good Schools Guide for their sense of community and forward thinking approaches to learning.

The guide's reviewer said: "The school’s small size works to the pupils’ advantage in terms of pastoral care.

"The mantra, ‘Every child is known’, is genuine. ‘It’s like a family, really’, one pupil told us.

"The term ‘sector leading’ gets bandied about a lot in schools, but we think Lomond School is genuinely ahead of the pack academically."

Also highlighted in the review is the school’s new principal, Claire Chisholm, who was praised for driving positive changes in the school’s curriculum, learning, and teaching methods.

Ms Chisholm's appointment was announced by the school in January after previous principal Johanna Urquhart moved to a new role as principal of the International School of Monza in Italy.

She said: "We are thrilled to receive such high praise from The Good Schools Guide.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff and the vibrant community of students and parents at Lomond School.

“Having been in the post for less than three months, I couldn’t be any prouder of our team and the inspiring learning opportunities we offer here at Lomond School, which have recently been bolstered through the introduction of two new IB Career Pathways programmes.

“Our dynamic and inclusive curriculum is designed to help pupils love learning throughout their life, and I look forward to building on our fantastic foundation and continuing to inspire our next generation.”

The review also applauded Lomond School's expansion of its academic options, including the introduction of two new International Baccalaureate (IB) career pathway programmes, a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in mechanical engineering, and a National Certificate (NC) in activity tourism.

Lomond School has tailored its curriculum to provide students with globally recognised qualifications that align with the changing demands of higher education and the job market.

The guide also praised Lomond School's boarding offering, which they said "fosters a sense of community" and offers a diverse range of extracurricular activities, including ice skating, live music, rugby, scouts, and taekwondo.

There are currently 50 boarders at Lomond School, including both local and international students, mainly from Germany, Latvia, USA, China, and the Middle East.
