The organisers of a clean-up effort in Hermitage Park have thanked volunteers for their hard work.

The effort took place on Sunday, April 21 and was organised by the Friends of Hermitage Park as part of the Keep Scotland Beautiful charity's annual Spring Clean Scotland event.

A total of 40 volunteers came along to help clean rubbish, including Argyll and Bute councillors Fiona Howard and Mark Irvine, as well as local Co-op community champion Elizabeth Howie.

A spokesperson for the Friends said: “The Friends of Hermitage Park would like to thank the more than 40 residents and supporters who turned out on a Sunday to support our Spring Clean Event.

“We were very grateful for the support of Plastic Free Helensburgh and Helensburgh Community Council who provided us with litter picking equipment and the newly formed Argyll and Bute Climate Action Network who provided us with a skip and very welcome refreshments.

“We were particularly pleased to be supported by Argyll and Bute councillors Fiona Howard and Mark Irvine as well as Elizabeth Howie the Community Champion from the Co-op and we thank them along with all our other dedicated litter pickers young and old.

“Huge thanks are due our regular park volunteers who give up their time to help with weekly with tasks in the park and to Stewart, the park supervisor, who coordinates this.

“We are lucky to have such a beautiful Green Flag standard park at the centre of our community for us all to enjoy.

“The park is now ready and clean for the summer season ahead and we ask that everyone who uses it does their bit to keep it clean, tidy, and beautiful.

“We look forward to seeing you enjoying and caring for your park in the sunshine this summer.”

Trustee Jon Simmons also gave a guided tour of the park, and locals also had the chance to share ideas for improvements and events they would like to see.

Additionally, trustees shared future plans for the park and updated visitors on the current workshops and activities taking place.

A new litter picking station has been installed by Plastic Free Helensburgh thanks to money from the Argyll and Bute Supporting Communities Fund.

Volunteer sessions take place at the park on Tuesdays between 10am and 12 noon and Thursdays between 1.30pm and 3pm.

Donations of seeds and plants for the community garden can be handed in at the greenhouse by the Victoria Road entrance to the park.
